Kingdom of Laos [Ratio 2:3]
The flag of the Kingdom of Laos was adopted on 11 May 1947. The three elephants represented the three principalities, while the parasol represented the King. White elephants are considered very good omens in south-east Asia.

Pathet Lao [Ratio 2:3]
Pathet Lao, or Lao Patriotic Front, was the name of the communist rebels who had been fighting with the Lao government forces since the end of World War II. When the King abdicated on 29 November 1975 the Pathet Lao took over the country and their flag became the new national flag.
